Red Wine Vinaigrette is easy to make at home! Vinegar, olive oil, Dijon mustard and honey combine for a fresh, tart dressing you will love.
Making red wine vinaigrette at home is a piece of cake. You can easily change the ratios of the ingredients to suit your tastes and, unlike store bought dressings, there are no artificial ingredients!
The basic components of a vinaigrette are extra virgin olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. For this dressing we’ll use a red wine vinegar. In addition to the olive oil, salt and pepper, I also add Dijon mustard and honey for a couple reasons, mainly for the added flavor they provide, but also because adding them really helps thicken up the dressing. I use honey instead of regular sugar because it dissolves so easily. You can also use agave nectar, which has a milder flavor than honey. If you want this to be an Italian style dressing, you can also add some dried oregano.
The preparation is very simple, measure your ingredients into a jar or a shaker, and shake it up! I like the OXO salad dressing shaker because it’s so easy to pour from and it doesn’t drip all over. Because all of the ingredients are shelf stable, you can store the dressing at room temperature for a few days too. If you add an ingredient like shallots, then you will want to store it in the fridge.
The next time you want to use the dressing, give it a few good shakes and you’re ready to go! This vinaigrette also makes a nice pasta salad dressing, and I use it as the dressing for my Mediterranean quinoa salad with chickpeas.
