Fig, Brie and Prosciutto Bites are incredibly easy to make, and hit all the right notes. They’re sweet, salty, creamy and rich! Perfect for an appetizer board, or as a starter for entertaining.
The Idea:
Talk about a perfect bite! Fig, Brie and Prosciutto Bites are an easy three ingredient appetizer that is also impressive and delicious. Fresh sweet figs, creamy brie and salty prosciutto combine to hit all of the flavors you love in one pretty little package.
Prosciutto is that delicious Italian smoked ham that is cured and always served sliced paper thin. You can find it in the deli section of your grocery store. I like to serve these bites as part of a cheese or appetizer plate. We often make these “snack plates”, as my son calls them, for dinner and have fun with all kinds of meats, cheeses, fruits, nuts and whatever else we can find!
The Ingredients:
I am incredibly lucky because one of my friends here in Phoenix has fig trees. When he has a bumper crop, I can count on an abundance of these delicious and beautiful little fruits. I had never tried fresh figs until a few years ago when my mother-in-law served them to us as a snack. I was so pleasantly surprised! They have a great texture, not too soft, not too firm, and are just sweet enough. All you need to do is give them a quick rinse, then cut them in halves or quarters.
Besides the figs, all you need is some brie and prosciutto!
The Preparation:
I like to cut the brie into pieces about the size of the quartered fig, just to make it easy to eat. Have the brie chilled in the fridge to make it easier to cut. And it’s completely personal preference whether or not you want to cut the rind off.
The prosciutto should already come very thinly sliced. Then you can cut those slices in half.
Once you have the figs, brie and prosciutto prepped, set up a little appetizer assembly line! Take a piece of fig and a piece of brie and wrap them with a slice of prosciutto. Keep going until you run out of ingredients. When I have them as part of an appetizer plate, I like to serve them with other snacks like smoked almonds, sliced apples and grapes.
The Payoff:
The next time you see fresh figs in your store (or come across someone with a fig tree), buy some and make yourself a perfect appetizer (or dinner) of Fig, Brie and Prosciutto Bites!
They would also be delicious served with some smoky rosemary cashews (another three ingredient appetizer!).
PrintFig, Brie and Prosciutto Bites
- Yield: 4-6 1x
Description
The perfect three ingredient bite!
Ingredients
- Fresh figs
- Small wheel of brie cheese
- 6–8 pieces of thinly sliced prosciutto
Instructions
- Rinse the figs and cut into quarters or halves, depending on the size of the figs. Think bite sized.
- Unwrap the brie wheel and cut into 1/4 inch pieces about the length of the fig. This will be a little messy, but worth it! I do not remove the rind of the brie as it is soft and edible.
- Cut each piece of prosciutto in half the long way.
- Take a piece of fig and a piece of brie and wrap in a piece of prosciutto. Keep going until you run out of ingredients. Serve as an appetizer, or as part of a cheese plate.
