Description
Everyone needs a Lodge cast iron skillet! Cast iron has an even heat that makes it perfect for searing and sauteing. But I also use mine for eggs, veggies, and even baking (raspberry cornmeal cake anyone?).
Cast iron is so versatile and, contrary to popular belief, it’s not hard to take care of either. And if you treat it well, cast iron will last for generations. Now, if you weren’t lucky enough to inherit a perfectly “seasoned” cast iron pan from your grandmother (me either!), don’t worry, this one comes pre-seasoned with vegetable oil and is ready to use. Seasoning just means a non-stick coating has built up onto the raw cast iron.
After cooking, all you have to do is clean your cast iron with a stiff nylon brush and hot water. Using soap is not recommended (and definitely not the dishwasher!). Don’t worry, it will still get clean. Towel dry your Lodge cast iron skillet immediately after cleaning and apply a light coating of oil while it’s still warm. This will keep the pan seasoned perfectly and ready for your next recipe.
And for the icing on the cornmeal cake, Lodge is the oldest family-owned cookware foundry in America. Since 1896, the Lodge family has been casting iron cookware at their Tennessee foundry.
