Summer is made for relaxing and enjoying life, right? The sun is out, the days are long, and the weather is warm (or downright hot here in Phoenix!). With that in mind, this Summertime Grapefruit Cocktail is a perfect warm weather drink. It’s flavorful, fizzy and refreshing. It’s also really easy to make. So mix one up, then kick back on the porch, patio, lawn, driveway, or where ever you feel at peace, and enjoy!
If you’ve ever had a Paloma (tequila plus grapefruit soda – also delicious), you are familiar with how a grapefruit cocktail brings out the best of that fruit’s flavor. It tastes like grapefruit in the best way, it’s not overly bitter or tart. If I can be honest, I don’t actually enjoy eating grapefruit, but I do really enjoy drinking grapefruit cocktails and sodas! I can’t explain it. Grapefruit also pairs well with other citrus, so this drink is another great recipe for your Orange Simple Syrup. And for the citrus trifecta we will also squeeze a wedge or two of lime into our drink.
The Deep Eddy distillery in Austin, TX makes a ruby red grapefruit vodka that is so good. And no, this isn’t a sponsored post (I wish!), I just really like it. I first tried it at brunch after a rooftop yoga session one warm Sunday morning, and I fell in love. Yoga was also fun, but let’s focus on the important stuff here! If you can’t find the Deep Eddy brand, any red grapefruit vodka will work.
I like to use tonic to top off the cocktail for the additional flavor it brings, but if you want to make this a “skinny” cocktail, use club soda, which has zero calories. Either way you will get the same refreshing and delicious flavors of grapefruit, orange and lime in your drink. Make a Summertime Grapefruit Cocktail (or two) this weekend – you won’t regret it!
